Robo Cog Cafe, Surry Hills

Robots, Bikes and Brunchtime Burrito's - Oh My! These are a certain Empty Fridger's favourite things, in the one convenient location - Robo Cog in Surry Hills. The other Empty Fridger happily waddles along with the promise of Burrito's. Can you guess who that one that was? But that's it; shut the gates, the promise of toys and good food was enough to make any either of us happy so we decided that a visit was much needed to this super cool cafe on one of our weekend dates.
Chill Frappe - Mint, Rockmelon and Pear
Piccolo latte
Robo Cog is not your run of the mill cafe - for starters it is an unassuming white converted cottage. Hungry patrons spilling onto the sidewalk was the only indication we had found the cafe. We talk about toys we had as kids over a first and second piccolo latte. The coffee here is fantastic, with the Green Bean Coffee roasted on site. Inside there are pieces of cool art and robot motifs that adorn the walls. Littered about on shelves and invading almost all the spaces, the variety is amazing. They are just the coolest thing ever, and this made someone feel particularly regretful for neglecting Megazord all those years ago.
The robot theme runs supreme and does the name of the cafe justice. The other part though involves that of the bicycle. The cog component of the cafe is in reference to the owners love of all things bicycle. On our visit the brick wall bicycle display was that of a yellow Cinelli fixie. A certain Empty Fridger is quite the bike enthusiast and tends to wax lyrical about frames, wheels and italian bike brands that sound like pastry names ("What are you eating?" "Oh this..it's a custard filled Cinelli..you should try the chocolate Pinarello"). Whist thinking about bike pastries, a certain opportunist also manages to swindle a fruit frappe whilst the other remained distracted by the colourful objects.
RoboCORN BACON BACON Brekkie

Okay, have you seen anything more amazing than the above? The name says it all, its not just an ordinary Bacon breakfast dish.. there is a reason why is a double BACON BACON in the name. Don't be fooled by its salad like appearance (well actually, if that helps you ease the bacon guilt then go ahead, enjoy the.. salad) Lashings of lean Bacon rashers, Avocado slices, sweet crunchy corn, capsicum chunks with a creamy aoli dressing. And it gets better..hidden underneath this pile of awesome is a golden hash brown. Hello bacon bacon - you totally deserve the two bacons in your name.
Now the hash brown in the bacon bacon dish eases the carb craving. Usually there is a cry for some sort of bread in a dish like this, maybe we were distracted by the awesomeness as it was not needed. The sweet corn gave pops of crispness and the aoli just brought everything together and cut the salty taste of the bacon. It was a delight! Oh, what's that on the right? Well..if you thought it couldn't get better..

Robocon Berrito - Breakfast Burrito!
Breakfast Burrito's are the Mexican God's gift to mankind. He needed to give us something awesome, or humankind be more forgiving after giving us his other gift -tequilla. The Robocon Berrito is pretty spectacular. The first feedback from Demos was : "You can't have any of this..it has Corriander in it"
Oh really? Someone doesn't want to share his meal after eating half of the other now.. after a quick "What robot is that one?" distraction, a piece was secured.
Okay, there was minimal Coriander in it (Gianna will continue to play russian roulette with the allergy) Scrambled Eggs, Spicy Chorizo, Tomatoes all wrapped up in a hot toasty tortilla. If we say any more, we would have to go back.
Aside from the two dishes we tried, Robocog has plenty to offer food-wise - with dishes under $15. We spotted taco's, quesadilla's and a delicious looking breakfast trifle coming out of the kitchen. The great thing is that its available throughout the day too.
The service by super friendly humans, not robotic staff and it was a pleasure to have a nice brunch there despite it being very busy. Not to mention that the generously sized dishes are also very reasonably priced considering the $urry Hill$ location. This cafe is precious like your favourite childhood robot or bike.
 Rug up and eat :)

Robocog Cafe - 249 Riley St, Surry Hills. 9281 2880
Open for Breakfast and Lunch and until 4 pm on weekends.

  4. If something has the word salad in it's name it negates all of the other unhealthy ingredients. Bring on BACON X 2! But them I'm torn by that or the Burrito...I love breakfast burritos!

  30. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to
my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic
but I had to tell someone!

  41. This printer doesn't have a current choose change. It is offered as a 110 volt model or a 220 volt model. To transform the printer from one model to the various other, you would need to change both the electric supply and the fuser. At the very least it just didn't power up.
If you had relocated the printer in the opposite instructions, it would most likely have gone bang and/or tripped out the entire workplace.

  47. I’m super strict about not drinking and driving. I let people crash at my place, or call a taxi but no one who drank is leaving with their own keys/car. If a group comes, I make sure they have a designated driver and I make sure that person doesn’t drink. I will bring them soda and water all night so I know they aren’t getting alcohol.
