Buffalo Dining Club, Darlinghurst

If "All I have in the world is my Mozzarella and my Word" then after promising to "write a post tonight" for so long, all I am left with now is just my Mozzarella and there will be cheese aplenty in this post! The faithful trio of myself; Demos and the Gooseman wound up finding ourselves at Buffalo Dining Club, another new addition to the Darlinghurst precinct off the main drag of Victoria Rd

Buffallo Dining Club is a two storey super casual eatery. It's  fun and rowdy, just the way we like it. It was a busy saturday night and although they don't take any bookings we missed the first wave of diners. There are no menus, only a chalkboard and a very reasonably priced wine list. A great bottle of Santa Cristina Sangiovese ($42) was the pick of the bunch and was one of the several bottles listed that was under $50. 

Now for the food. With a name like Buffalo Dining Club, I know I was picturing another new eatery riding the american food wave and serving buffalo hot wings with cowboy hats. No friends; the buffalo in question here is buffalo mozzarella and LOTS of it. Lactose Intolerants need not apply. No seriously, just don't. 

Starting the proceedings was a serving of Burrata, with a side of potato croquettes and chilli brocollini. $15 gets you 125 grams of Burrata (or 100 grams of fresh buffalo mozzarella) and a selection of two sides from the chalkboard menu. Aside from the two we selected they offered other dishes such as balsamic baby carrots, portobello mushrooms, honey roasted fennel almonds and so on and so forth. What about the meat? 

Well under the section of the menu aptly titled "PIG" you can choose your porcine passion and select 30g, 60g or 90g of prosciutto Parma, San Danielle, or Pata Negra. 

The Pata Negra ($10 for 60g) is served paper thin and straight on a sheet, and my two favorite wog boys comment that it is just like being at the local Italian deli.

For something a little more substantial we have the buffalo burger, served with fries (sweet potato and regular potato potato) mayo and a big chunk of buffalo mozzarella wedged under the patty. It is a bite sized burger, no bigger than the palm of my hand but was ridiculously tasty especially because there were fried and crunchy prosciutto bits sprinkled all around the fries.

Our table was at capacity with the addition of the breads to have with our pig, but the main event was still about to hit us..

We had the best service from our waitress and she charged to our table with a carved out wheel of reggiano cheese - inside the wheel was our serving of Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe being stirred around to catch the little shavings of cheese direct from the source. A big bowl of pasta is plonked straight onto our plate - no fancy sauce; just oil, parsely, pepper and broccoli bits - KABOOM.

We were pretty much in awe of this dish and like hyperactive children; couldn't stop joking and asking questions about the cheese bowl - they replace it regularly, and that means more often than once a year as our waitress joked.

The big big bowl of pasta, was made even better with some homemade chilli oil. In a dining world full of choices, this was one of 2 pasta dishes on the menu - the buffalo ricotta gnocchi was sold out by the time we were there. So the potential for some ultra carb loading wasn't as great. 

Yep - pile it on. 

 If you are down for some good o'l Italian fun and hankering for some buffalo of the mozzarella variety, then look no further than the Buffalo Dining Club. Whether it's chowing down on pasta lavished in cheese straight from the source or some porcine pleasures, this is one club definitely worth checking out.
