Summer Food Events to Remember..

Watch out - Drop Bears about.
Summer, the season of fun in the sun - and for many, a season of memorable food and drink events. It could be a weekend BBQ, a romantic picnic, a boozy balmy evening or a beer and beach cricket session - there is always something fun to do in the summertime. Just jump on a train, bus or in our case, the trusty Yaris - and no doubt you can enjoy a weekend adventure.
In the next coming weeks and weekends there are several food related events for Domo to poke a stick at (yes, its been few and far between Domo appearances on this blog.) Malaysia Kitchen was a massive hit last week and lucky for us there is more fun for food and drinky drinky lovers to come. The March into Merivale is an epic event in itself, this weekend's NSW Wine Festival for the lovers of vino, Cocktail Island (unfortunately postponed) is also on the cards to name a few. Not to mention all the BBQ's to kick off footy season too! One food event I truly enjoyed last year was the Taste of Sydney Food Festival..it was truly memorable.
I was looking through old photos from last year - and I actually wanted to find a funny photo to send to Helen@grabyourfork as an entry to win tickets to the 2011 Taste of Sydney (details at the end of the post) You see, these photos were taken B.B. (Before Blog) but I just wanted to share it here because we had too much fun.. emphasis on the too much part. I couldn't help laughing as I was going through these photo's from last year's event, sometimes Demos and I just exist in this little world where we don't notice anything but each other's sillyness. I have recieved so many weird looks when I pull out Domo from my bag..
Caprioska + Ping Pong Cocktails from Longrain / Pork Saddle with smoked bacon &peas from Balzac

For those who are not familiar with the Taste of Sydney events, it is an annual event held in Centennial Park where visitors can sample signature dishes from an impressive selection of Sydney restaurants. There are also producers stalls, wine tastings, and cooking demonstrations too...but we'll get to all those details later on. It was a hot day and with an empty stomach we decided to cool down with some cocktails from the Longrain stall & a dish from Balzac. We establish a "one drink then one dish" routine that we seem to have followed throughout the day.. okay, maybe "two drink then one dish"
Cocktail list at the Belvedere Vodka Bar
You'd think that on a semi-empty stomach would have kept going with the food. After spotting two free seats at the Wine Theatre we thought..why not? It was a tasting and information session about wines from the King Valley region and how they were able to grow more traditional Italian grape varieties. Very informative, and delicious of course from what I remember!!
Suckling pig panino from Pilu at Freshwater.
Whisky Tasting at one of the many producers stalls.
Domo meets Armando at Buon Ricordo
Homemade sausage with Parmesan and truffle egg from Buon Ricordo
Domo loosing it at the Baileys Coffee liqueur stall
Another delicious dish from Buon Ricordo.
More Whiskey tasting and Domo having enough Baileys Afogatto's
Okay..now the fun part..because when life gives you lemons - you need to find Tequila!
 Behold..the Patron Tequila tasting stand!
We spent some time "getting to know" the different tequila varieties, and Domo had a very enjoyable afternoon also - (please don't call child services)
Now nobody actually believes this story - but after a rather exhausting morning of eating and drinking ourselves silly, we had a little lie down in the middle of Centennial Park just to rest our tired legs and full tummies... We woke up 2 hours later, and it was the best nap after the best morning ever!
So friends - Domo, Demos and I promise to be on our best behavior at this year's event. No excessive wine and liquor tasting, and no falling asleep in public parklands. We promise.
This was the last image we saw before passing out in Centennial Park

This year's Taste of Sydney is on March 10-13 2011.
For a complete list of the restaurants participating - click here the list of dishes available are also listed too
For location and ticketing info - visit http://www.tasteofsydney.com.au/ - I say pre buy your tickets and crowns (food 'tokens' - dishes are 8-12 'crowns' each) Head over to Grab your Fork and Chocolatesuze's to win tickets too! (I had a go - you should too!)

Other Summer food Event's we are attending:
- March into Merivale - for the $33 dinners, A tapas Sushi train, Pasta making classes and we will definitely be raiding a cellar or two.
- NSW Wine Festival - need we say more?
- Cocktail Island - again, self explanatory.

Hope to see you there and here's to enjoying the rest of this food filled summer! Cheers everybody, Let us know what you will be getting upto! Love from your favourite food and booze hounds.

Domo may or may not come, he needs to learn how to act his age in public. Troublemaker.
